Cherry Blow Dry Bar to Open First Philadelphia Location

By Franchising.com

The Philadelphia area has seen a number of blowdry bars open in recent years, including the newest such salon on the scene, Cherry Blow Dry Bar. The New Jersey-based chain, known for its widely popular membership model, will soon open its first Philadelphia location at the Paoli Shopping Center in Paoli.

The blowdry trend, which has been around nationally for almost a decade, took off a few years back when the recession was still underway and women were saving money by not getting their hair cut and colored as frequently. Rather than pay upwards of $100 for such services, women could get a blowout for more than half the cost.

“I knew nothing about hair, but saw a niche in the market and opportunity to get into an exploding industry without having to figure it out on my own,” said salon owner Bob Ferry, referring to Cherry Blow Dry Bar’s proven business model and operational methods. “The concept has proven strong, and Cherry Blow Dry Bar is continuing to expand throughout the country. I look forward to introducing our unique services to local consumers.

A former Goldman Sachs vice president, Ferry was attracted to Cherry Blow Dry Bar after growing tired of the monotony and the numbers-based world. He wanted to have a business where he could interact with normal everyday people. “I wanted a business with happy and pleasant workers and clients,” he said.

Together with his wife, Michelle, also a veteran of the financial services industry, Ferry plans to open at least three Cherry Blow Dry Bars in the Philadelphia area.

In addition to the membership plans, which start at $59 for two monthly blowouts, Cherry Blow Dry Bar offers introductory blowouts starting at $35.99, as well as extensions and make-up services. Additional services such as scalp massages, protein treatments, braids and clip-in applications are also offered. Prices vary per location.

“It’s a place for women to come and get primped and pampered to look their best – no matter the occasion,” said Michelle. Whether for dinner, for work, or just because, getting a blowout can do wonders on your appearance and confidence.”
